Mrs. Focht was born in County Roscommon, Ireland, the seventh of nine children, to Joseph and Margaret (O’Kelly) O’Donnell. Her surviving siblings are Gemma McInerney (Daniel) of Dublin, Ireland, and Seamus O’Donnell of Brighton, England.
Surviving children include: Moya Moran of Houston, Texas; Pat (Steve) Quillen of Troy; Dorcas (Kip) Peters of Pleasant Hill; Rita (Bob) Dumaine of Sugar Land, Texas and Frank (Kim) Focht of Pleasant Hill. Mrs. Focht immigrated to America in 1947. She worked in the hospitality industry, managing restaurants and country clubs in the area, including the Troy Country Club with then husband, Patrick Moran. A subsequent marriage to Frank Focht ended when he died in a work related accident in 1965.
`Aine then embarked on a career in public service, first working as a dispatcher for the Ohio State Patrol before moving to the Tipp City Police Department, from which she retired in 1986. Known for the lilt in her voice and clear enunciation, she was well respected by the local law enforcement agencies.
After retirement, she devoted time to working at the soup kitchen at St. Patrick’s in Troy and was employed at Browse Awhile Books in Tipp City.
An avid reader, `Aine would devour books and newspapers and was always exceptionally well informed on a variety of topics. She became a naturalized American citizen in January 1954, and was very interested in America’s history. Mrs. Focht also enjoyed travel and camping.
A funeral mass and interment of cremains at Maple Hill Cemetery, Tipp City, will be held at a later date.
