Norman S Miller, 94, went to be with his Lord on December 7, 2016.  Norman was born June 5, 1922 on a farm near Gettysburg, Ohio to John Henry and Nellie (Smith) Miller.  He married Ruth Carol Petersime on August 24, 1946, and they resided in Gettysburg.  He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth Carol; brother, Harold Miller; sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Ralph Apple; son, Stephan Miller; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Marvin and Marjorie Petersime; and daughter-in-law, Deena Miller.  Norman is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Carolyn Miller of Sebring, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Esther Clark of Gettysburg and Mary Anna White of Springfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Leland Miller and Sue Lucas of Oak Creek, Colorado, Gary and Cathy Miller of Cascade, Michigan, Philip Miller of Louisville, Colorado, and Blair and Jill Miller of Grand Haven, Michigan; 11 grandchildren and spouses; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  Norman was an active member of the Church of the Brethren all his life.  He attended Oakland Church of the Brethren, and in his later years, he joined the fellowship at Castine Church of the Brethren.  During WWII, he served in the Civilian Public Service in various roles around the country.  As part of that service, he worked as a lumberjack in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Oregon and as a guinea pig for a vitamin study at the University of Minnesota.  After the war, he volunteered to be a seagoing cowboy to deliver animals to war-torn Europe under the Brethren Service Commission and the UN Relief and Rehabilitation Administration.  This effort later became the Heifer Project.  Norman became a self-taught electrician and started Miller Electric Service in Covington, and he continued his electrical work with several local companies.  He also spent twenty years with Sears as an appliance repairman.  He was a humble servant to his church, his family, and many others in need.  The family sincerely appreciates the warmth and dedication of the many people and groups involved with his care in the last few years: Seville Home of Lakeshore Assisted Living (Grand Haven, MI); Brethren Retirement Community (Greenville, OH); and State of the Heart Hospice of Greenville.  Memorial contributions may be made to Heifer International, www.heifer.org, 1 World Ave., Little Rock, AR 72202.  Memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 11 am at the Oakland Church of the Brethren with Chaplain Todd Reish officiating.  Interment of cremains to follow at Gettysburg Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10 am until time of service at the church.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.stockerfraley.com.
