Carol Ann DiMatteo, age 80 of Dayton, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. Carol was born March 26, 1943 in Piqua to the (late) John Arthur & Betty Louise (Beeman) Thompson; obtained her Secretary Degree from Miami Jacobs College, attended Ohio State University for two years, and was a graduate of Covington High School, Class of 1961; has previously worked as a Sales Clerk in the China Department at Elder Beermans Northwest, Legal Secretary for Sutton, Overholser, & Schaffer, Dayton, GM Dayton, and City of Englewood Clerk of Council, a member of Covington Church of the Brethren, Covington Alumni, and past member of OES Sharon Chapter, Covington. Carol loved her pets, especially dogs and feeding them off of her plate, however, she also loved feeding the birds, watching the squirrels and she named one “Mr. Squirrel”; she loved going to the beach, taking road trips, staying in touch with her High School friends; she also loved gardening; Words With Friends Game, cooking, and being with her grandkids. She was known to have a wonderful sense of humor and driving around “Treasure Hunting!” Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, John R. Thompson; and her granddog, Cosmo. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, John A. DiMatteo; four children, Laura & husband, Don Martindale, Johnny & wife, Crystal DiMatteo, Thomas DiMatteo, Melissa DiMatteo and fiancé, Rich Smith; four grandchildren, Cassie & husband, Randy Young, Ty Martindale and friend, Kayla Yockel, Victoria and husband, Garrett Wall, Caitlyn DiMatteo; two great-grandchildren, Georgia Mae Young and Lenore Eden Wall; two sisters and brother-in-law, Kay McKinney, Jayne & Dan Hobbs; granddog, Izzy; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life Service 11:00 AM Monday, March 25th at the Covington Church of the Brethren with Pastor Michael Yingst officiating. Interment of Cremains to follow at Highland Cemetery, Covington. Gathering of Family and Friends 9:00 AM Monday until time of service at the church.
