John Marvin Wilson Sr.

Wilson, Sr., John Marvin, age 91 of Huntington, W.V. and formerly of Covington, Ohio, went home to be with Jesus at 6:00 PM on September 30, 2018. He was born July 25, 1927 to the late Quinton and Georgia (Bowman) Wilson in Owsley Co. Ky.  John graduated from Hamilton H.S., in Hamilton, Ohio in June 1946. On June 10, 1948 he and Delores M. Denman were married. He worked at J.C. Penney’s from 1945 through June, 1960. He started in the Hamilton, then, was transferred to Terre Haute, In. He was then promoted to one of the management positions in Dixon, IL. In June of 1960, John and Delores opened Wilson’s Department Store in Covington, Ohio. They operated the store for 27 years retiring in 1987. During those years, John was a member of the Covington Chamber of Commerce and the Covington Kiwanis Club. He also, teamed up as Co-Sponsor with Beaver-Heilman Ford to help start up “The Covington Midget Football Team”.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Delores on July 14, 1999, after a marriage of 51 years. Also preceding him were his sister Marianta (Warren) Sippel of Hamilton, Oh, and brother, Billy E. (Nan) Wilson of Brookville, In.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law John M. Wilson, Jr. and Linda K. Catterlin Wilson of Proctorville, Oh. two grandchildren, Shonda Nicole (Samuel) Dingess of Ona, W.V., John Kyle Wilson of Proctorville, Oh., one great grandchild Travis Halstead of Ona, W.V., two brothers, Edward E. (Ruth) Wilson of Louisville, Co., and Lawrence (Peggy)Wilson of Blanchester, Oh., two sisters Rita A. Karr of  London, Ky and Joy L. (James) Hammerly of Hamilton Oh. There are also many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service 10:30 AM Friday at Bridges-Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Covington.  Interment Highland Cemetery, Covington.  Visitation 6-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.stockerfraley.com.
