Rev. Kathy Jo (Carine) O’Donnell, age 64 of Piqua, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 8:47 A.M. surrounded by her loving family, her husband, Mike, daughter and son-in-law, Addi and Ray, son, RJ, and sister, Debby, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio.  Kathy was born to Martha (Stahl) Carine and Joseph Carine on April 5, 1952 in Piqua and she was a very active child bouncing everywhere she went and was always wanting to do more.  She graduated from Covington High School, Class of 1970 and then went to work at Wright Patterson Air Force Base for 11 years.  She married Michael S. O’Donnell on November 24, 1974 and became a mother to Addine E. O’Donnell and Roger J. O’Donnell.  Kathy was very active in church beginning at the First Presbyterian Church in Bradford where she lived until 1960 then moved to Covington where after she got married she became active at the Covington Presbyterian Church. She was a stay-at-home mom except for her work as Church Secretary for many years and then as her children grew up she decided that she wanted more and started her college years; graduated with Honors from Edison Community College in 1999, also a member of Phi Beta Kappa Society; graduated Summa Cum Laude from Wright State University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2003; graduated with her Masters of Divinity degree in 2007 from United Theological Seminary.  She served five years as Pastor of New Hope United Methodist Church in Eaton, Ohio; and in June of this year would have completed five years as Associate Pastor of First Christian Church, Sidney, Ohio serving as head of the Sunday School program.  Kathy loved clown ministry and preaching and teaching and especially was a very creative Bible Story teller and she always loved to dress-up in character when she preached.  This may have been a result of her involvement in the Order of the Eastern Star where she became a member of Christian Chapter in 1970 and remained a member for over 40 years.  She was very active and was the youngest WM in the State of Ohio the first year she served, but she continued as WM many times and also served many other offices.  Kathy was always busy trying to help make her families lives better so she sold Tupperware for many years and was involved in many activities, but she always did everything with her children and went to the Y with them which resulted in her working there and teaching many classes which she really enjoyed.  She was proud to be a step-grandma for 10 years.  Kathy ran Covington Rescue Squad for many years and was “married” to the Covington Special Fire Dept. for 36 years and helped with the Spitfyres, and then her husband became the “pastor’s wife” until now. She was a member of the Shelby County Ministerial Association.  She had memorized the first chapter of John.  The butterfly was a symbol of new life; she wore a butterfly everyday for almost 20 years and was known as the “Butterfly Lady”.  She made various types of butterfly pins and gave away several thousand of them over the last ten years.  Kathy is survived by her husband of 42 years, Mike; her children, Addine E. O’Donnell Waldon (Ray) and Roger J. “RJ” O’Donnell; her sister, Debby Jess (Bob) and their children, Jinny Jess Hale (Jim) and their children, Jordan and Emma and Lee Jess (Brittany) and their children, Ellie, Kennedie, Zoie and Gage; sister-in-law, Dee Minnich; brother-in-law, James O’Donnell (Jill); her beloved cat, Sophie; and numerous other relatives and friends.  Funeral service 11:00 AM Thursday at the Bridges-Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Covington with Rev. Phil Chilcote officiating.  Interment Highland Cemetery, Covington.  The family will receive friends 4-8 PM Wednesday and again from 10:00 AM Thursday until time of service at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.  There will be a Memorial Service 11:00 AM Saturday, March 25th at The First Christian Church, 320 E. Russell Road, Sidney.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.stockerfraley.com.
