William “Bill” J. Sommer, 68 of Covington, passed away Monday, January 22, 2018 at St. John Medical Center, Westlake, OH. Bill was born in Sidney on April 10, 1949 to the (late) Herbert & Lucille (Wesbecher) Sommer; was a graduate of Minster High School, Class of 1967; Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering; worked as Power Systems Director at City of Piqua for 22 years; worked at DP&L for 15 years; attended St. Theresa Catholic Church, Covington; was an avid reader; and loved the outdoors, hiking and cutting firewood. Preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Lee Fortkamp. Bill is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda S. (Henry) Sommer; three children and their spouses, Jason & Pam Sommer of Covington, Josh & Tricia Sommer of Great Falls, Montana, Sarah & Adam Negley of Mechanicsburg, OH; four grandchildren, Brookelynn Sommer, Aubrey Sommer, William Negley, & Beckett Negley; two sisters, Barbara and husband, Elmer Broering of St. Henry, Marilyn Fortkamp of Minster; mother-in-law, Marcella Henry of Montpelier, OH; sister-in-law, Joyce Bushong of Calhoun, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alan & Joie Henry of Pioneer, OH; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Prayer service 12 Noon Friday at the Bridges-Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Covington with Father Jim Duell. Interment Highland Cemetery, Covington. Visitation 10:00 AM Friday until time of Prayer Service at funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Miami County Parks.
