Derek McCuistion, age 61 of Covington, passed away Wednesday. February 11, 2026 at his home. Derek was born on February 23, 1964 to James Louis & Othel (Murphy) McCuistion in Dayton, Ohio. He was a graduate of Miami East High School, Class of 1982 and received his Associate Degree from Lincoln Tech University, Indianapolis and was the Owner/Operator of The Plumb Shop for 35 years. He was a member of the Covington Eagles Aerie #3998; VFW in Troy, Troy Fish & Game, AMVETS in Troy; the NDRL (Nostalgia Drag Racing League), the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association), so as you can see, Derek, was a motor head who loved drag racing, was a wheeler-dealer of Hot Rods, old cars, and Harley Davidsons; he enjoyed hunting and fishing; you could find him drag racing down “certain” roads. You could always find Derek in his shop, at work, or helping someone; he was a best friend to many. Preceded in death by his mother, Othel McCuistion; grandparents, Elmer & Annabell McCuistion and Paul & Elva Murphy; and Shannon’s son, Austin Miller. Derek is survived by his father, James McCuistion; his wife of 10 years, Shannon Renee (Longendelpher) McCuistion; his children, Kara Ann McCuistion, Zachary F. McCuistion and Holly Riley; step-son, Trevor & Brooke Miller; three grandchildren, Merrick McCuistion, Jimmy Miles McCuistion, and McCoy Curtis Miller; his three brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony & Linda McCuistion, Mark & Christy McCuistion, and Jeff & Heather McCuistion; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jerry & Vicki Longendelpher; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jodi & Shawn Chaney; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral Service 1:00 PM Wednesday at the Covington Church of the Brethren with Pastor Mike Yingst officiating. Interment Highland Cemetery, Covington. Visitation at the church starting at 10:00 AM until time of service. If desired, contributions may be made to Ohio Hospice of Miami County.
