Galen R. Hackett

Galen R. Hackett, age 91 of Bradford, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at Ohio Hospice of Miami County, Troy.  Galen was born in Miami County on July 13, 1933 to the (late) Elwood “Pete” & Miriam (Sargent) Hackett; was a graduate of Bradford High School, Class of 1951; was an U.S. Army Veteran; bought J.E. Overholser Insurance in 1959 and worked with John Hill, then worked by himself, and then Galen and C.J. Hocker started the Bradford Insurance and he retired from there in 1997; a member of Common Ground Christian Church, formerly Bradford Church of the Brethren; in his younger years he played slow pitch men’s softball; loved fishing; enjoyed playing cards; and loved sitting on his porches watching people and loved taking drives (cruising) through town.  Preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 62 years, Connie LaRue Hackett in 2015; daughter-in-law, Sarah Hackett; and siblings, David A. Hackett, Lucile Detrick, William Hackett and George “Smokey” Hackett.  Galen is survived by his four children, Cathy & Dennis Baker, Doug Hackett, Diana & Gary Lear, Pam & Lonnie Young, all of Bradford; 10 grandchildren, Michelle & Chris Hensley, Deanna & Mike Harmon, Angie & Randy Sloan, Darrell Philipps, Melissa & Jason Spurgeon, Ashley Lear, Tyler Lear & Ashley Albright, Natasha Hackett & Friend, Derek Heisey, Jennifer & Matt Evans, and Jordan Hackett; 19 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.  Funeral Service 12:00 Noon Saturday at the Common Ground Christian Church, Bradford with Pastors Dan Scalf and John Shelton officiating.  Interment Harris Creek Cemetery, Bradford with Military Honors by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad.  Visitation at the church 10:00 AM Saturday until time of service.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Common Ground Christian Church.   Condolences may be left for the family at www.stockerfraley.com.
