Glen Michael Murphy, 86, of Bradford, Ohio, left this world on Friday, August 11, 2023 and is now singing and dancing with the angels above. He was born September 7, 1936 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Robert and Florence (Strowbridge) Murphy. Glen always wore a contagious smile and loved to make people feel loved. He was known as the little leprechaun, the dancing king, the jokester, and Poppa Smurph. To summarize Glen’s life, he was genetically born deaf and attended the Ohio School of the Deaf in Columbus where he learned to communicate through sign language, cued speech, and lip reading. While in high school, he acquired the skills to run a paper press and after graduation was employed by the Greenville Daily Advocate and Piqua Daily Call for 49 years. He enjoyed sports, hunting and fishing in the great outdoors and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye, Cincinnati Reds, and Cincinnati Bengals Fan. He was a member of the Dayton Association of the Deaf and The Dayton Deaf Anglers Association. Glen was a devoted husband to his high school sweet heart Mary from Oak Hill Ohio. Together they built a precious family adding four children and raised them in Bradford where Glen’s family resided. He was family oriented and was a wonderful father, grandpa, and great grandpa, who has touched countless souls in his 86 years on Earth. Glen is survived by his wife of 63 years Mary Katherine (Kisor) Murphy originally from Oak Hill, Ohio, whom he married on June 25, 1960; his children Barry (Le Anne) Murphy of Covington, Steve Murphy of Bradford, Angie (Brian) Byers of Bradford, April (Roan) Brubaker of Bradford; his grandchildren Channing (Mike) Wolthuizen, Haleigh (Sam) Christian, Jett Murphy, Ivee Brubaker, and Oakley Brubaker; his great- grandchildren Sofia Wolfe, Josie Christian, and Crew Christian; Brother-in-law Earl Cherrington of Oak Hill, Ohio, Sister-in-laws, Carolyn (Murphy) Thobe of Maria Stein and June (Potts) Kisor of Oak Hill, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews and additional family members and friends. In Addition to his parents, Glen is preceded in death by his; Grandson Bryant Andrew Byers from Bradford; siblings Alan Murphy, Ivan (Jane) Murphy, Dale (Jean) Murphy, Ida Mae (Earl) Martin, and Rachael (John) Draving all from Bradford; His in-laws Tammy Cherrington, Wilma (Hayden) Strickland, and Freda (Carl) Byrd, and Ronnie Kisor, all from Oak Hill, Ohio. A celebration of life service will be held at 5:00PM on Tuesday, August 15 at Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Bradford with Pastor Dan Scaff and Rev. Curtis Enis. Visitation starting at 2:00PM until time of service on Tuesday, at the funeral home with a dinner following at the Bradford Community Club.
