Obituary

John E. Shafer, age 75 of Bradford, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at the Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton.  John was born in Miamisburg on September 5, 1947 to the (late) Joe & Helen (Nisonger) Shafer; was a graduate of Vandalia Butler High School, Class of 1966; a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War and then continued with the Army National Guards for a total of 25 years; retired from A.O. Smith, Tipp City with 36 years of service; was an avid NASCAR fan; enjoyed fishing; and loved being with his grandchildren.  Preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian Shafer; and siblings, Clara Louise Shafer, Jerry Boyce, Donald Boyce, and Edith Moore.  John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Doris J. (Horner) Shafer; two sons, Chad & Lisa Shafer of Greenville and Jonathan Shafer of Bradford; three grandchildren, David Shafer, Shelby Shafer, and Max Shafer; sister, Mary Gershim of Miamisburg; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Visitation on Monday from 1-3 PM at Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Bradford with a procession to Gettysburg Cemetery where there will be Military Honors provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.stockerfraley.com.
