John Shell, age 85, of Bradford, died Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at the Hospice Unit at Wayne Hospital, Greenville. He was born August 4, 1936 in Kitts, KY to the late Robert Fulton and Josie (Ellis) Shell; attended Evarts High School in Kentucky; a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict as a torpedoman on the USS Cassin Young DD793; a member of Stillwater Community Church; retired from Ohio Plate Glass where he worked as a glazier for over 30 years; a farmer; loved horseback riding and was a member of the Miami County Mounted Patrol; enjoyed woodworking and other crafts, painting, arrowhead hunting, fishing and restoring classic cars.
Preceded in death by his sister, Ruby Shell; brother, Virgil (Christine “Cricket”) Shell; and sisters-in-law, Frances Shell and Bev Shell.
John is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Judy (Custer) Shell; 8 children, Dennis (Mary) Moore of West Alexandria, Debbie (Mike) Robbins of Fletcher, Jim (Cindy) Moore of Fort Loramie, John (Kim) Shell of Covington, Jarrett “Jake” (Heather) Shell of Sidney, David (Susan) Harrison of Wildwood, MO, Ann (Heath) Francis of Covington, Alan (Robin Kottenbrock) Harrison of St. Paris; 27 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Bob (Ola) Shell and Charles Shell, all of London, KY; and many other relatives and friends.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Saturday from 2-3 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 3 p.m. at the Stillwater Community Church, 7900 W Sugar Grove Rd, Covington, OH with Pastors Jon Dillon and Ralph Schaafsma officiating.
