Joyce Elaine (Houser) Heisey, age 83 of Troy, passed from this life to her eternal life Friday, March 13,2026 at Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County. Joyce was a miracle who has lived with a heart pump/LVAD for almost 12 years when survivability is five years, she appreciated the Ohio State – Ross Heart Hospital for her wonderful care. She was born in Greenville on October 1, 1942, the firstborn to the (late) William R. & Neva K. (Sargent) Houser; was a graduate of Bradford High School, Class of 1960; graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1964 from Manchester University in Indiana; and in the early 80’s graduated with her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Dayton. Joyce had worked at Covington School System, St. Patrick’s School in Troy; and then she found “her home” at Miami East School system where she taught until her retirement, in 1996, after 34 years of teaching “my kids”. Baptized into the Brethren faith at an early age and was a member of the Troy Church of the Brethren where she served as a Deacon, served many funeral meals and helped on many committees throughout the years. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Joyce kept busy after retirement with traveling, reading, cooking, entertaining and helping others, plus some of her hobbies were creating greeting cards, cross-stitching baby quilts for family, and canning garden produce. Preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Marcia Kay Houser; brother, William Robert “Bobby” Houser II; and sister-in-law, Delores Ann Heisey. Joyce is survived by her loving husband, Larry E. Heisey, whom she married on August 21, 1965. Larry was a classmate of hers at Bradford High School in 1960 with 60 years together. She is also survived by her brother, Christopher “Chris” Houser of Sidney; her in-laws, Duane & Dixie Heisey of Arcadia, FL, Dale & Connie Heisey of Goshen, IN, Jan & Mary Ellen Heisey of Taylorsville, MS, Paul & Dianne Heisey of West Unity, OH, Karen & Stephen Blocher of Bradford, and Steve & Renee Heisey of West Unity, OH; special friends, Karen & J.B. McBride, Jesse & Kathy Allen, Cindy & Lou Buttino; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral Service 12 Noon at Troy Church of the Brethren, 1431 W. Main Street, Troy, OH 45373 with Pastor Jon Keller officiating. Interment Miami Memorial Park Cemetery, Covington. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Troy Church of the Brethren, Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County, or The Ohio State University – Ross Heart Hospital.
