Marvin McDowell Obituary

Marvin Joseph McDowell, age 79, passed away Monday, July 27, 2026 at his home of 50 plus years in Covington, Ohio.  He was born in Piqua on December 25, 1946 and was the son of Woodrow “Woody” and Freda (Weikert) McDowell.  Marvin was husband to his wife, Karen McDowell of 49 years, who he married on August 19, 1977.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marily Humason and Margaret “Peg” McDowell.

Besides his wife, he leaves behind his children, James (Renee) McDowell of Covington, Joseph (Amy) McDowell of Celina, and Tara (Jason) Haag of Farmersville.  Grandchildren, Kirsten (Tom) Watters, Emma (Colton) Brewer, Meredith, Megan and Nathan McDowell, Tristen Paul, Connor and Aliviah Frizell.  Also, great-grandsons, Bronson, Barrett, and Bowman Watters and Coe James Brewer; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Marvin graduated from Miami East High School with the Class of 1964 and Miami University of Oxford in 1968 with a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Applied Science.

He held various responsibilities of engineering throughout his career at General Films, Hobart Corporation and Whirlpool Corporation.  He retired from his own consulting business of 15 years which included traveling nationally and internationally.

His early life working with his father in his farming operations gave Marvin a great appreciation for all activities outdoors, especially fishing for perch on Lake Erie and mushroom hunting in Michigan with family and friends.

Marvin had a great love of Volvo automobiles and drove them for many years.  He also enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the University of Dayton Flyers.

Marvin attended the Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ and always considered every day to be a blessing of life and expressed his appreciation to his Lord for all which he had to be so thankful.

Marvin had a great love for all the members of his family and appreciated all the help he received from them. 

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday at Bridges-Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Covington with Pastor Jeffrey Motter officiating. Visitation will be 11:00 AM Saturday until time of service at the funeral home.  Condolences may be shared with the family at www.stockerfraley.com.
