Michael "Mike" Wendel Obituary

Michael “Mike” Paul Wendel, age 68 of Piqua, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2026 at Wilson Health Memorial Hospital, Sidney.  Mike was born in Sidney on March 4, 1958 to the (late) William H. Wendel & Ann L. Looker; a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, Covington and St. Boniface Catholic Church, Piqua; was a Fourth Degree Knight in Knights of Columbus, Lodge #15424 Covington; a life member and President of the Men’s Auxiliary, VFW Post #4235, Covington, where he also marched with the Veteran’s in the Memorial Day Parade; was a member of the Sheet Metal Union Local #24 with 20+ years of service; a member of the Troy Fish & Game; a dedicated volunteer for the Greenville Citizen Baseball for 15 years;  in the past, a Fireman for the Liberty Township Fire Department.  Mike enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.  He was an avid fan off the Cleveland Browns and the Cincinnati Reds; he was very patriotic, would help anyone and enjoyed paying it forward, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, he was called a “family man all the way!”  Preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Lisa Marie Wendel.  Mike is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Toni L. (Whittaker) Wendel; his four children, Bambi & Robert Wagner of Sidney, Bret Wendel of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Michael W.R. Wendel of Piqua, Paul J. Wendel of Piqua; five grandchildren, Dakota Kitchen, Zachary Kitchen, Ashton Kitchen, Kolton Wagner, and Kayden Wendel; two great-grandchildren, Ayden and Nikola; five siblings, Mark & Tammy Wendel of Piqua, William “Bill” D. Wendel of Covington, Marcia & Mike Scherer of Piqua, Scott Wendel of Covington, and Matthew & Jan Wendel of Piqua; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many dear friends.  Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Piqua with Fathers James Duell & James Simmons con-celebrating.  Interment Miami Memorial Park Cemetery, Covington.  Visitation 5-8 PM Thursday at Bridges-Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Covington.  If desired, contributions may be made to VFW Post# 4235, Covington.  Condolences may be shared with the family at www.stockerfraley.com.
