Richard "Dick" Weider Obituary

Richard "Dick" Eldean Weider passed away peacefully Sunday, November 7, 2021 in Daytona Beach, Florida. He is survived by his children; Craig and wife Ellie (Matkins) and Brian and wife Julia (Radziuk); his sister Shirley Richard; grandchildren Evan, Nicolas and Kirstin; great grandchildren Trent, Allison and Desman; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, students and neighbors.  Previously departed love ones include his beloved wife, Loretta; his brothers, Jerome and Paul; and his grandson Kurt.

He was born April 27, 1931 on a farm in Franklin Twp., Darke County, Ohio to Waldo and Naomi (Sharp) Weider. The early farm life was the roots for his love and passion for gardening.

He graduated from Bradford High School in 1949 where he was a star athlete and president of his class.  He entered Manchester College in Indiana and later transferred to the University of Dayton, while working full time at Frigidaire to fund his education.  Richard married his high school sweetheart, Loretta Faye Marker, in 1952 and graduated with a B. S. in Education in 1955, which also included an officer's commission into the US Army. He returned to Ohio in 1957 to become a teacher and varsity basketball coach at Bethel Schools.  Later he took a position teaching government at Wayne High School in Huber Heights and a varsity basketball coaching position.  In 1967 he returned to the University of Dayton to complete a Masters Degree in School Administration.

Still teaching, he obtained his real estate license and began a successful real estate career in Dayton, Ohio and eventually retired from teaching.  Richard and Loretta moved to Indian Lake, Ohio in 1987 where he was a broker and co-owner at Coldwell Banker Top Lake Realty. People often saw him on his pontoon boat showing waterfront properties to buyers.

He was a very loving, kind and caring man and enjoyed sharing his passions of gardening, coaching and genealogy which included writing "The Book of Weider 1530 – 1992" and distributing copies to family and friends and major genealogical libraries across the country.  Throughout his life, he always made it clear that second only to family, nothing, nothing is more important than education and lifelong learning.
