Rick Reck, age 62 of Covington, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022 in his residence, surrounded by his family. Rick was born October 3, 1960 in Miami County to the late Robert J. Reck and Sue Rudy Reck, who survives him. Along with his mother, those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 28 years, Jill Yohey Reck, sons, Sam Reck (Julie Landers) of Piqua, Brady (Kate) Reck of Covington, Zechariah Reck, at home; daughters, Erica (Brian) McCartney of Powell, OH, Zoe (Robert) Kemer of Covington. Grandchildren, Hudson, Eva, and Bennett Reck, Sutton and Crew McCartney, and Cameron Kemer. His “adopted” family, Jesse (Jen) Hitt and Walker, Wilson and Eloise of Lexington, KY; brothers, Alex (Renee) Reck of Bradford, Phil (Michelle) Reck; sisters, Robin Reck (Steve Snead) of Troy, Gretchen (Joe) Schmidt; mother-in-law, Janice Yohey; brother-in-law, Ryan (Sherry) Yohey; Godson, Chad Yohey; numerous special nieces, nephews, his loyal companion, Sophie, and many good friends and acquaintances. In addition to his father, he was proceeded in death by grandparents, George and Judy Rudy, JW and Lorean Reck, father-in-law, Ed Yohey; and nephew, Ceddrick Reck. Rick was a 1979 graduate of Covington High School and attended The University of Dayton. He operated Recks Used Cars and VW Sales for many years, and was currently owner/operator of SBEZZ Investments, LLC. He was a school bus driver for Covington Exempted Schools for over 22 years. “Mr. Reck” loved the children that rode his bus and made lasting friendships with many of the bus families. He was known for his strong work ethic, and you could count on seeing him every day with a friendly (Peace sign) wave and a big smile. He was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and loved watching their games. He was a sports enthusiast and, in earlier years, coached youth football. He very much enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s sports events and other activities. You could often hear Granddad cheering from the sidelines. He liked to vacation, and made treasured memories with loved ones in Emerald Isle, NC. His favorite pastimes were collecting shells, lava rock, and shark teeth, taking care of his flowers, making his famous homemade ice cream, walking Sophie, watching old movies, and spending time with family. Rick truly enjoyed life and loved his family dearly. His big laugh and generous spirit will always be remembered and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him. The family would like to thank Dr. Scott Swabb, Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County and Rhonda Dunlevy, the Covington Christian Church, Pastor Nick Church, Pastor Dwayne Wilson, and the many friends that sent him well wishes and prayers during his 5-year battle with cancer. Funeral Service 10:30 AM Wednesday at Covington Christian Church with Pastor Dwayne Wilson officiating. Interment Highland Cemetery, Covington. Visitation 4-8 PM Tuesday at the church.
