Roderick “Rick” Allen Lavy, age 77 of Piqua, passed away Monday, May 6, 2024 at Koester Pavilion, Troy surrounded by his family and friends. Rick was born in Piqua on July 16, 1946 to the (late) Ralph Emerson & Lenora Mae (Stevenson) Lavy; was a graduate of Covington High School, Class of 1965; a graduate of ITT Institute, Dayton with a degree in Design Engineering; served and retired as a Warrant Officer III from the Ohio Army National Guard with 22 years of service; retired with 10 years of service as a Designer with Hartzell Propeller, Piqua; owner/operator of RS Design and holds two federal patents (Engineering Designs); was a Private Pilot and was a member of AOPA; a member of the Covington Church of the Brethren; loved muscle cars with Corvettes being his favorite and he built a 1958 Corvette from ground up; he also enjoyed going to Florida for the winter for eight years. Preceded in death by his parents; infant granddaughter, Macenzie Anderson; four brothers-in-law, Ed Keihl, Mike Troyer, Richard Reames, & Danny Cotrell; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Terry & Barbara Longendelpher; and his dog, Pugzy. Rick is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sherry Ione (Longendelpher) Lavy; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shelly (Gary) Ginter of Bellefontaine, OH, Shantel (Eric) Anderson of Fletcher, OH; five grandchildren, Darian (Tarah) Ginter, Garrick (Katie) Ginter, Alyssa Anderson, Kylee Ginter, & Emma Anderson; three great-grandchildren, Daxton Ginter, Gunnar Ginter, & Drayden Ginter; three sisters, Beth Keihl of Greenville, Vickie Troyer of Covington, Kathee Cotrell of Piqua; two brothers-in laws & sisters-in-law, Melvin (Peggy) Longendelpher and Jerry (Vicki) Longendelpher, all of Covington; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral Service 1:00 PM Friday at the Covington Church of the Brethren with Pastor Mike Yingst and Rev. Ron Green officiating. Interment Miami Memorial Park Cemetery, Covington with Military Honors by Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation 12 Noon Friday until time of service at the church.
