Roger Colby Obituary

Roger W. Colby, age 82, of Covington, OH passed away on February 21, 2025 at Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy.  He was born on December 25, 1942 in Houston to the late Homer and Mary (Campling) Colby.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years: Norma Karnehm Colby; daughter: Jennifer Colby Schoonover of Ft. Recovery; granddaughter: Taylor Renae Schoonover of Ft. Recovery; brother and sister-in-law: Steve and Sarah Green Colby of Covington and extended family and friends.

Roger loved hunting and fishing. He and his brother Steve ran a trap line. They did pest hunting for school credit. In junior high, he played basketball. He then went into the band playing saxophone. He loved riding Wizer Bikes, motor scooters, and motorcycles. He worked on them when they needed repair. Then he went into working on cars, body work, and painting them. 

He graduated in 1960 from Houston High School. He attended The Ohio State University.

Roger loved music and played the guitar. He and Norma sang together and lead Praise and Worship at the Women’s Aglow Meetings and Full Gospel Fellowship meetings. Roger also sang with the Miami Shelby Melody Men’s Chorus for a while.  He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Covington.

He went to work for Hobart Kitchen Aid after school. He answered customer complaint letters, then got into the service part. He traveled 48 states holding service meetings. Then in 1975, he worked for Miami Valley Authorized Service. In 1978, he started his own business, Appliance Installation Service. He served all of Miami County area until 2020.

Roger had many friends and loved talking on the phone. He enjoyed playing cards, reading, working crossword puzzles and sudoku puzzles.  He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Service will be held 11:00AM Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Covington. The family will receive friends at the church from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Tuesday and 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM on Wednesday. Interment will follow in Miami Memorial Park, Covington.  Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County.
