Shirley E. Ganger, age 91 of Covington, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at the Stillwater Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Covington. Shirley was born in Darke County on November 28, 1929 to the (late) William W. & Letha (Hollopeter) Bookwalter; a graduate of Covington High School, Class of 1947; retired as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Dettmer/Upper Valley Medical Center; worked for Covington Schools in their Latchkey Program for six years; was a member of the Covington Church of the Brethren where she was a Sunday School Teacher for many years; previously was a volunteer for the Covington Outreach Association; and loved to read and collect things. Preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Samuel Ganger in 2008; brother, Kenneth Bookwalter; and three sisters, Ruby Bookwalter, Evelyn Bookwalter, and Lois Wilson. Shirley is survived by her four children, Diana & David Sweigart of Troy, Gary & Kathy Ganger of Piqua, Kevin & Deborah Ganger of Covington, Leisa Plank of Covington; seven grandchildren, Andrew & Kimberly Sweigart of Avon Lake, OH, Adam Sweigart of Covington, Megan & Mike Fulk of Troy, Nick & Kelly Ganger of Millersport, OH, Erik Ganger of Piqua, Tara Plank & friend, Sam of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Brad & Jennifer Plank of Marion, IN; eight great-grandchildren, Ian & Emerson Sweigart, Lillianna & Sullivan Ganger, Madelynn, Mason, & Miles Fulk, and Jackson Ganger; three sisters-in-law, Joan Ranly of Ft. Recovery, Naomi Beisner of Troy, & Rita Ganger of Lake Okeechobee, FL; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Funeral Service 11:00 AM Wednesday at Covington Church of the Brethren with Pastor Mike Yingst officiating. Interment Miami Memorial Park Cemetery, Covington. Visitation 5-7 PM Tuesday at Bridges-Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Covington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Covington Church of the Brethren or Ohio Hospice of Miami County.
