Thomas "Tom" Hagan Obituary

Thomas J. “Tom” Hagan, age 79, died Friday, November 5, 2021 in the Tom Hagan Room at Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County, Troy.  Tom was born April 9, 1942 in Piqua to the late Robert D. and Mildred A. (Hudson) Hagan.

Preceded in death by his parents; wife of 35 years, Susan P. (Brown) Hagan in 2004; brother, R. Douglas Hagan; and twin sister, Marsha Hagan.

Tom is survived by 2 sons, Michael T. (Kim) and Mark A. (Tara) Hagan, all of Covington; 6 grandchildren, Lacey L. Hagan, Daniel J. Jennings, Michael P. Hagan, Jared M. Hagan, Lauren K. Houshel and Jenna M. Hagan; brother, Joseph H. Hagan of Tipp City; other relatives and numerous friends.

Tom graduated from Piqua Central High School, Class of 1960 and Ohio Northern University School of Pharmacy in 1965.

Tom had 2 passions.  The first was his 52-year career which began as a staff pharmacist at Shanely Pharmacy in Piqua, then in Covington in 1965. In 1979 he began providing pharmacy services to Long Term Care Facilities like nursing homes, assisted living, group homes and jails. In 1981 he purchased the pharmacy and changed the name to HealthCare Pharmacy.  Tom hired Jay Meyer in 1982 and together they built HealthCare Pharmacy into a major institutional pharmacy provider.  Tom sold the pharmacy in 1998 and became Director of customer support for RNA Health Information Systems in Englewood and Dallas. In 2007, Tom began a 10-year encore career at SoftWriters, Inc. which is a long-term care pharmacy software provider.  Tom retired in 2016.

Tom’s second passion was Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County.  Healthcare pharmacy began servicing Hospice in the early 1990’s and Tom immediately fell in love with their mission as well as the kind and caring professionals who worked there. Tom’s passion for this organization led him to become a dedicated board member and an integral contributor to the development of the new Hospice inpatient facility in Troy that opened its doors two months ago.

Visitation will be held Tuesday 4-8 p.m. at Bridges-Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Covington.  Private funeral services to be held at a later date.  Tom’s wish was that all memorial donations be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County. Condolences may be left for the family at www.stockerfraley.com.
